I wanted my husband to appreciate everything I was doing for our family while convincing myself that everything he was doing was simply what he owed me 🙃 I wanted gratitude for fulfilling my responsibilities while withholding gratitude from him for fulfilling his!! And the hypocrisy of that was something I had to confront. We talk so much about the mental load women carry, the sacrifices we make, and how often our contributions go unnoticed... But somewhere along the way, we’ve started calling everything a good husband does the bare minimum while calling everything a good wife does a sacrifice. I was measuring my sacrifices by what they cost me and his sacrifices by what he owed me!! And that mindset made it nearly impossible for me to appreciate him the way I wanted to be appreciated. You can have high expectations of your husband and still be grateful when he meets them 🔥🫡🙏🏼🙌🏼🫶🏼 I wasn’t wrong for wanting appreciation. I was wrong for withholding the very appreciation I was demanding.
