To me the difference can be discerned by what they do afterward. If they are freezing, I’ll see them come back and attempt to repair or reengage with me. Even if they need more time, if thats communicated I can accept that. Anything less than that I will consider to be the silent treatment and will move accordingly

I’ve been through some extremely difficult mental and emotional states in my life, including times when I was at absolute rock bottom. And even then, I was always capable of at least briefly communicating how I was feeling and why I might not be able to talk or continue a conversation at that moment. It doesn’t take much to say that. To me, it’s just a damn excuse.

Yeah ppl need just stfu, silent treatment is literally like you’re mid argument and someone just refuses to reply as a vindictive measure….. freezing up from overwhelm is not at all the same

This is me. I can have conflict with strangers, but anyone I have gotten to know, I am very shut down with conflict. I know why, but it doesnt make it easier.
