This is part of my skincare journey that people don’t glamorize or talk about — caring for skin that is inflamed, draining, scarred, and still deserving of patience and love. My belly button has been one of the most difficult places to manage with HS and PASH, from constant drainage to open areas that make infection a real fear. It’s about cleaning wounds without shame, protecting skin without anger, and reminding myself that healing doesn’t always look pretty. Some days are better than others. Some days I’m exhausted. Some days I’m proud just for showing up and doing the routine anyway. If you’re on a journey like this, know that your skin tells a story of endurance, not failure. Your scars are evidence of battles fought and still being fought. Be gentle with yourself.
