It’s such a small thing when you say it out loud. A virtual hug from a complete stranger. Someone I’ve never met. Someone who lives on the other side of the world. But at 3:02am, it didn’t feel small at all. Because motherhood can feel incredibly lonely in the middle of the night. The house is quiet. Everyone else seems asleep. Your baby needs you. You’re exhausted. And somehow your thoughts get louder with every hour that passes. That night had been one of those nights. The kind where every wake up felt harder than the last. The kind where I was running on very little sleep and a lot of caffeine. The kind where I felt like I was carrying the whole night by myself. Then I got a hug. From another mom. Another mom who was awake too. Another mom who understood exactly what 3am feels like. She didn’t solve the sleep regression. She didn’t magically get Riley back to sleep. She didn’t have to. What she gave me was something I needed even more in that moment. Connection. A reminder that there were other moms awake in dark rooms around the world. Other moms feeding babies. Rocking babies. Worrying about babies. Loving babies. Doing their best. Just like me. It’s funny how something so small can make such a big difference. So to the mom in Ohio, thank you.
