![🤝When you nail your job interview and they say, “Can you provide us with 3 references?” Don’t panic. ▪️You do not have to use your current boss as a reference. It is normal in the corporate world to ask a prospective employer to NOT contact your current employer because you don’t want them to know you’re looking for a new job. But you do need to provide a boss/supervisor or executive that you have worked closely with so if you can’t use your current boss ask a previous boss to give you a refence. ▪️You should also provide a co-worker/peer that you’re currently working with and if you’re a manager, it’s always great to provide a refence from someone you managed. ▪️If you’re entry level, and you have limited work experience- use a professor/teacher, coach or mentor. 🤔Asking for a reference is a favor. Reach out via text or email to ask their permission first. 👇🏼Use this template: Subject: Reference request - [Your Name] Hi [Reference Name], I hope you’re doing well! I am currently applying for a [Job Title] role at [Company Name], and I was hoping I could list you as a professional reference.
