This damages the gut, stops the insect from feeding properly, and eventually causes its death. Humans, on the other hand, do not have the same specific gut receptors targeted by these proteins. Our digestive system can also break down these proteins, which is why approved Bt corn is considered safe to eat following proper food safety assessments.
