@draw.with.sirius: Burnishing involves you layering your colours as you normally would, except you take it a step further. Continue adding layers, but start pressing down much harder until you can’t see the tooth (or texture) of the paper anymore. In other words, you shouldn’t be able to see little the white spots of your paper showing through your drawing. A couple important reminders: - Take frequent breaks! Burnishing can hurt your hand, especially if you’re new to the technique. It takes time to build up your muscles, so listen to your body and stop if your hand is getting sore. - Burnish in circular motions. This is the best way to get really smooth blending. - Burnish at the end of your drawing. Since burnishing gets rid of all the paper’s texture, the paper won’t really hold more layers of colour after burnishing. You can get away with adding a little bit of colour, but not too much. - Burnishing actually works best with a dull pencil. Normally, having a sharp pencil is very important, but this is one exception. - Burnishing works best on thicker, heavier and more durable papers. I find drawing paper is ideal, and mixed media paper also works well too. I would avoid using sketch or printer paper (unless you are just experimenting). Try it out yourself! And, as always, let me know if you have any questions! :) #art #drawing #arttips #realisticart #arttipsforbeginners #drawingtips #artlesson #realisticdrawing #colorpencil #coloredpencil #colouredpencil #colouredpenciltips #coloredpenciltips #beginnerarttips #burnishing #arttechnique

✐𝒩𝑖𝑐𝑜𝑙𝑒 :
First of all, this is so helpful—thank you! My only question is: did you burnish the lightest part of the circle with your lightest yellow pencil, or did you use a white pencil? Because if I burnish the lightest part of my circle with my lightest green, it’s not going to be as light as I want it to be.

burnishing is a good method but won't it destroy the grit of the page limiting the amount of layers?
