Stephanie Melgoza, 24, of Farmington, was sentenced to 14 years in prison for the d3aths of Andrea Rosewicz, 43, of Avon, Ohio & Paul Prowant, 55, of Seattle. She pleaded guilty to 4 felonies for aggravat3d DUI & aggravat3d reckless driving. 4 lesser chargers were dismissed earlier this year in exchange for a guilty plea. Melgoza struck & kill3d them in a DUI crash on April 10, 2022, while they were crossing the street near Full Throttle bar in East Peoria. The then-Bradley University student was 3 times over the legal limit & failed every field sobriety test. She admitted to officers that she had 3 vodka & waters & had cannab*s in her purse. In bodycam footage, Melgoza can be seen manically smiling at the police officer as she giggles her way through a light test. After being asked to 'touch the tip of my pen' to indicate she understood the assignment, the young woman proceeded to move her head back and forth, rather than just her eyes. After police arrived on scene in April 2022, bodycam footage showed her red Dodge Dot's hood with a large dent in the center & she admitted to police that she was 'just getting her night started,' despite already being 3 times over the limit. While recalling the events, Melgoza said 1 of the victims 'walked out in front of me' while she was driving toward Full Throttle and said her 'car got hit.' During her sobriety test, she blew an 0.264. She was immediately arrested afterward. When she asked the officer when she'd be able to go back to school, he harshly explained to her that she had kill3d 2 people & would not be seeing school anytime soon.
