@poultrycare: Here is the step-by-step guide to broiler processing: 1. Restraining: The first step is to humanely restrain the broilers by confining them in a way that makes it easier to handle them. The most common method is to use a conveyor belt to transport the broilers from their cages to the processing area. 2. Stunning: Next, the broilers are stunned to render them unconscious and reduce their pain and suffering. This can be done using electric shock, gas, or water immersion. 3. Bleeding: Once the broilers are unconscious, they are placed in a rotating killing cone where their necks are cut to facilitate bleeding. This is done to ensure that all the blood is removed from their bodies. 4. Scalding: After the bleeding, the broilers are then placed in hot water tanks for scalding. This process loosens the feathers and makes them easier to remove during the next step. 5. Feather Removal: The feathers are then mechanically removed using machines designed specifically for broiler processing. This can be done using either a dry or wet plucking method. 6. Evisceration: After feather removal, the broilers are transferred to an evisceration line where their internal organs (such as the intestines and gizzards) are removed. 7. Chilling: The broilers are then chilled in ice water to reduce their temperature, which prevents the growth of bacteria and ensures food safety. 8. Cutting and Deboning: Finally, the broilers can be cut and deboned before packaging for sale and consumption. It’s worth noting that broiler processing is regulated by government agencies that oversee food safety standards, and it’s important for processors to adhere to these regulations to ensure that their products are safe and of high quality. However, you can start on a small scale while processing the NAFDAC approval. We would go deeper in our upcoming poultry production masterclass. Be part of it.
