If you’re thinking about doing a J-1 as a housekeeper, here’s what my experience was really like. I worked from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. every day, and honestly, the workload wasn’t too bad. On average, I cleaned a maximum of six rooms per day, which made the job manageable and not too overwhelming. One thing I really appreciated was how the hotel was set up. Each floor had its own storage area with cleaning supplies and linens, so we didn’t have to keep going up and down to a main laundry room. There were also laundry chutes, which made things way easier and saved a lot of time during shifts. As for housing, we lived pretty close to the workplace—basically right across from it—so getting to work was super convenient. The housing was shared, with about six females and six males in total. Rooms were shared with one other person, and there were two bathrooms for everyone. Overall, my experience wasn’t bad at all. The workload was fair, the setup made the job easier, and the location was really convenient.
