Pensions are basically gone, SSI is nexr and only half of workers participate in a 401k and only 30% of that group does so meaningfully bcz their income allows it.

Just rolled my 401k into an IRA as I just retired. It did very well over the 37 years. You need to contribute yearly as much as you can and leave it alone to build.

We never got what we put into it. By the time my husband retired, we should've gotten $400K or more, but the trading market got greedy. Just like the housing market at the time… it crashed!
