I have a video pinned on my page on an impulse control drill I do with my puppy. Building duration is challenging so I tried to set my puppy up for success and reward even a few seconds of quiet and

We worked on “bed/place” “stay” and “free” commands A LOT in the beginning - we did a ton of hand feeding for bonding & used food as rewards for learning tricks (small handfuls at a time)

We taught ‘wait’ at the door. The door closes when he moves and eventually you get a fully open door with no dog running out. We translated that to meals in 3 days! Put the food down, ‘wait’ ✨

Once they freak out, just stop what you are doing and leave the room until they calm down. Once they are calm go back in and continue. Rinse and repeat. Takes ALOT of patience but they will get it!!

I trained our dog to sit and wait on his place (dog bed) and he has to wait until I say his release word. Took lots of repitition.

I would wait to put the bowl down until she is quiet. Also making sure to keep a sit. If she makes a peep in process pick it back up. Took a few days for us but after that it worked.

Make sure you feed her in her crate so she relaxes after she eats!!! If she starts running around she can get bloat!

Our springer spaniel is SO food motivated. We taught him “place” (can be a bed, crate, etc). We would have him go to place and wait and watch us make his food and put it down until we said “break”

Sit and stay helped us a lot! Right before you start to get food and water, make them sit and stay. Use the commands to begin with, and eventually you might not even need to commands to get her calm

teaching my dog to wait on her place before meals was the best thing we ever did. over time I increased how long she waited until she'd fully rest and relax before a meal

A lot of the best part of training comes with time. When their lil it easier to really cement the basics and only engage in behaviors you want her to cont. then they won’t develop those patterns/behaviors versus training them.

Teach her “wait” and her release word means she gets to eat. Do every single meal like that, just a few pieces of kibble in your hand at a time. Same with giving her her water bowl! You’re doing great

i did the same thing as you (stop/ignore). she’s so young that it’s going to take time. puppies will do anything for food/water. stay consistent but it might take a little longer than other training

I don’t like turn around and ignore but I freeze my own body and don’t keep moving forward in the task till he(my dog) was still, I think the stillness helps them recognize they should also be still!

So once they’ve mastered sit, I taught “wait”. Put a piece of food down in front of her and reward for keeping her attention on you instead of the food. Then it was “ok” for release to eat.

The “place” command works wonders for something like this. I’m sure you can google. Also love following Ruff Rules on instagram for this

She is just a bitty baby, it won’t all come at once. She will also have fear stages and training fallbacks over time. I definitely recommend researching these! Keep teaching what you want instead!

We taught mine sit, wait, okay when we feed him and put on his leash. But that was 3 years ago and I don’t remember how we did it. YouTube probably.

I trained my puppy to sit & wait. I sit the food down after he sits and he doesn’t go to the bowl until I say “okay.” I’d say use more verbal commands instead on ignoring her!
