@vitalbraininstitute: Lucas is 18 months old and hasn’t outgrown his rooting reflex - a reflex that typically fades by 6 months. This reflex is still very much present, causing him to drool and struggle with his speech development. His mom grew concerned as the months passed and he wasn’t progressing like other toddlers. Despite being told over and over that it was just a phase, she trusted her instincts and brought Lucas to our office. When we gently stroked the corner of his mouth and saw him turn toward the touch, it confirmed that the reflex was still there, affecting his ability to speak clearly and leading to mouth breathing and drooling. With early intervention, we can help Lucas overcome this challenge with specific exercises and therapies that will give him the best chance to catch up in his speech development.
