🚨Handling the “micromanager”👇 Having a micromanager can feel very frustrating and difficult to navigate. If you’re faced with this situation I would always recommend avoiding criticism and instead raising how you’re feeling directly and respectfully. There are many reasons managers micromanage. Here are the 3 common ones: 1️⃣ They are not aware the way they are approaching things is coming across to you as micromanaging 2️⃣ They are worried about losing control and this is something they need to work on 3️⃣ There isn’t enough trust between you both which is leading to them not feeling confident you will do things if they don’t oversee it Building trust and raising awareness is critical to shift the dynamic for both parties. Open, direct and respectful communication helps build trust. If you’re feeling micromanaged I would recommend highlighting to your manager what you’re noticing for example: “May I observe something. It seems like you’re lacking confidence in me to follow through when you ask me to [INSERT]. What can I do differently to give you the confidence to trust me to do these tasks independently?” This may open a discussion or this may raise their awareness leading to them being more mindful going forward. 💬 What are your experiences on either side of this? Share in the comments so we can learn from each other 📌 Please remember the advice offered in this video is generalised. You know your situation better than anyone else so trust your instincts, if this doesn’t fit your situation ignore it.
