President Biden on Thursday urged those disappointed with the results of the election to keep the faith. “Setbacks are unavoidable, but giving up is unforgivable. We all get knocked down. But the measure of our character, as my dad would say, is how quickly we get back up,” the president said in remarks from the Rose Garden. The president said to remember that “a defeat” does not mean that you are “defeated.” “We lost this battle. The America of your dreams is calling for you to get back up,” he said. “That’s the story of America for over 240 years and counting. It’s a story for all of us, not just some of us.” #potus #biden #election2024 #cspan
President Biden told the American people “you can’t love your country only when you win” in his first remarks since President-elect Trump’s historic victory. “We accept the choice the country made,” he said Thursday in remarks from the Rose Garden. “I’ve said many times, you can’t love your country only when you win. You can’t love your neighbor only when you agree.” The president implored Americans to see each other “not as adversaries, but as fellow Americans,” and to “bring down the temperature” following a heated presidential contest. “I also hope we can lay to rest the question about the integrity of the American electoral system,” he said. “It is honest, it is fair, and it is transparent. And it can be trusted, win or lose.” The nation’s 46th president said he will “do his duty” to facilitate a peaceful transfer of power. “I’ll fulfill my oath, and I will honor the Constitution,” he said. “On Jan. 20, we’ll have a peaceful transfer of power here in America.” #potus #joebiden #biden #trump #election2024 #cspan

Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell on Thursday said he would not step down from his position if President Trump asked him to do so. Mr. Powell gave a terse “no” when asked by a reporter, later adding that it was “not permitted under the law.” Mr. Powell, a lifelong Republican, was first appointed by President Trump in 2017 and then reappointed by President Biden in 2021. His current term ends in May 2026. President Trump clashed with Mr. Powell during his first term and threatened to fire him on several occasions. However, he told Bloomberg News in July that he planned to keep Mr. Powell on for the remainder of his term. #federalreserve #jeromepowell #donaldtrump #cspan
