FBI Director Christopher Wray provided new information Wednesday about the gunman who tried to assassinate former President Trump at a rally earlier this month in Butler, Pennsylvania. He confirmed the gunman searched online for the distance between President Kennedy and his assassin, Lee Harvey Oswald, who fatally shot the president in 1963 in Dallas. “That is a search that obviously is significant for his state of mind,” Director Wray said. “That is the same day that it appears he registered for the Butler rally.” Director Wray said the FBI hasn’t yet uncovered an obvious motive for the shooting, but that his agency would continue its investigation. “Sometimes in these kinds of situations, you find a manifesto or something like that. It’s frustrating to us and I’m sure it’s frustrating to you and the American people that we haven’t found anything quite like that,” he told lawmakers. “We’d love to have a roadmap and know exactly what he was thinking. We haven’t found that yet. That doesn’t mean we won’t. We’re looking all over the place and we’re going to leave no stone unturned.” The FBI director said the bureau had discovered pictures saved in a cache of the gunman’s electronic devices from news searches that included various public figures across the political spectrum but had “no rhyme or reason.” “It does appear fairly clear that he was interested in public figures, more broadly,” he said. “Starting somewhere around July 6 or so, he became very focused on former President Trump and this rally.” #fbi #congress #cspan
