Having hiked Angel’s Landing in Zion National Park, which has a section with stairs that feels just a bit wider than the parapet but with much steeper drops. It’s the drop on both sides that does it.

nah. it's clear you've never walked on slick rock. there is a palace here in Sweden I hold onto the rails because the stone is so slippery. put in rain and wind, death lol.
