Eastern Gateway ran a "Free College Benefit", free tuition for union members, their families, even their friends. Enrollment exploded from 8,500 students to over 60,000. More than 90% were online. About 80% didn't live in Ohio. And the program was run by two companies. Out of Rhode Island. Both led by Michael Perik. According to the Ohio Auditor, those companies took over enrollment, attendance verification, and access to financial aid, then billed for students who were ineligible, or who'd already dropped out. The college is dead. Eastern Gateway closed. Students left out in the cold. Now the political part. The husband of the state Democratic Party chair has donated to nearly every Democrat in Rhode Island. Magaziner. Foulkes. Matos. Diossa. Reed. Shekarchi. Plus over a million dollars to Democratic committees nationally. And this isn't new. In Iowa, the Des Moines Register found Perik had donated about $100,000 to Senator Tom Harkin and Iowa officials, while his companies pulled in more than $6 million in contracts. The FBI investigated. The Iowa attorney general investigated. Overbilling was uncovered. Then in 2021 he sold his company for $120 million and got sued for fraud over it. Now Ohio. So, Seth Magaziner. You've made transparency your brand. Your own words: "No one should ever have to guess who their elected officials are working for." You took Perik money. You're the establishment's man in a one party state. And the chairman of your own party's household just got indicted over $20 million that was supposed to go to students. Michael Perik says he's not guilty. Liz Perik isn't charged. Fair. But Rhode Islanders get to ask one question: who is this state actually working for? Because the money went everywhere. And the trail keeps running back to the same address.
