Whenever we have a rough day in our homeschool, I always remember that Charlotte Mason said kids shouldn’t even start formal schooling until age 7!!!!! Seriously. There is a lot of research to support this. Forcing a child into learning does nothing but drive them away from a natural curiosity and love of learning. I have made a lot of mistakes in our homeschool that I am very candid about on my channel. One of them I’ll never forgive myself for- and that’s pushing my oldest daughter way too early. She now has a fear of making mistakes and is afraid to learn new things because she wants to be perfect 100% of the time. My youngest two are the opposite. I learned from my mistakes. They are so full of curiosity and obsessed with learning. It’s amazing. And heartbreaking that my oldest isn’t there. I’m working to reverse the damage I did. Homeschooling isn’t weird. It doesn’t make your kids unsocial. Homeschooling provides opportunities for natural learning in the real world. Homeschooling allows us to work with our Child’s ability levels and developmental stages. Not pushing them into anything. When I taught first grade, we were expecting children to write full stories. Like a beginning 2 sentences, middle two sentences, and an ending. At age 6. Then when I had them again in fifth grade, they all despised writing.
