You only pay 6 euros upfront if you’re a citizen or resident, and then 20 euros for any month you want to travel. It works on almost all trains except the super fast Alfa ones. If you’re using Intercity trains, you’ll need to reserve a 2nd class seat within 24 hours. But the popular routes? They’re often fully booked by then. Still, if you’ve got time and a backpack, it’s an amazing way to explore Portugal on a budget. And honestly? These trains and the quiet little railway stations… it’s more like meditation.
