As I wrap up my first year at CCCU, I’ve been reflecting on what it’s meant to experience this city not just as a student, but as a revert Muslim. Moving away from home came with so many changes — new routines, new people, new expectations — and embracing Islam in the middle of it all brought a deeper kind of change: one that touched my identity, my habits, and my heart. Canterbury has been the backdrop to some of the most transformative months of my life. Learning to balance lectures with salah, finding halal options when dining out, and navigating student life while staying connected to my deen wasn’t always easy, but it was always rewarding. Alhamdulillah, I’ve come to see this city not just as my uni town, but as a space where my faith has grown, quietly but beautifully, alongside everything else. Here’s a quick list of halal food places and prayer spots I found helpful during my first year: Halal Eats 🍽️ — All located around City Centre • Mr Falafel Canterbury • Mezze Bar and Grill • Azouma Restaurant • The Olive Grove • Kashmir Tandoori • Jaspers Takeaway • Ocakbasi of Kent Mosques and Prayer Spaces 🕌 • Brothers and Sisters Prayer Rooms — Canterbury Christ Church University, Fleming Building (Fg02-05) • Faith Space 2 (12:00-13:00 and 17:00-18:00, time varies) — Canterbury Christ Church University, Augustine House (AHg.26e, accessed through faith space 1) • Canterbury Mosque & Kent University Islamic Society — located in University of Kent ✨ Know a halal spot or prayer space I missed?
