always think 1/(b-a)!! a is 1, b is 3. for this you just have to find the slope with (f(b) - f(a))/(b-a). it would be ((-4)-4))/(3-1)) = -8/2 =-4

have you tried using the formula m= f(b)-f(a) / b-a?
f(3)=-4
f(1)=4
so -4-4 = -8 and 3-1= 2
-8/2= 4
the slope (m) is 4
