A powerful few have turned governance into a family affair, passing down positions from generation to generation—using every means to retain control. In the upcoming 2025 Elections, 71 out of 82 governors come from political families, and 113 of 149 city mayors belong to dynasties. Among 156 party-list groups, 40 are linked to political dynasties. In the city of Baguio, we must reject all attempts to establish political dynasties. Dynasties are a clear threat to our democracy. When power is concentrated in the hands of the elite, corruption, abuse, and impunity thrive. Political dynasties do not serve the people—they exist to protect their own power, wealth, and family interests.
