it’s a trade off, dc metro does maintenance every night but it only runs till midnight, we’re all cinderella over here 😭

Nothing will be as bad as summer 2017, people literally called it the summer of hell and the governor called a state of emergency for the subway. I gave myself an extra hour to get to work cause there would be random shutdowns weekly!

also the nyc subway is one of the only systems in the world that runs fully 24/7 so all the shutdowns for maintenance are noticeable. in most other systems they don’t run overnight so they can do maintenance then

new york has hands down the best public transportation system in the country. where else can you get anywhere you need to go for $2.90. literally all ppl want to do is complain. it’s also significantly cleaner than subways in philly and most other comparable cities

Read up on the MTA. Those signal delays are likely due to workers needing to use the bathroom & have no coverage. The system is from the 1800s

the thing is i feel like everyone who talks about its unreliability hasn’t used other trains elsewhere in the states. boston, dc…even at their best don’t compare. a delay on the mta is the same amount of time as regular intervals in other cities

for the maintenance thing it’s cuz they’re doing signal modernization on the A and the G (sucks short term— game changing long term for frequency and on time performance)

Truthfully, I think COVID was the peak chance the city would've had to do things they wanted to do for the subway. However, we don't live in an efficient enough country to get things done with a purpose. Cleaning, platforms barriers, etc. It's just the Ship of Theseus, excahnging one thing at a time, until the day the subway becomes unrecognizable.

montreal’s metro has live updates on twitter and i swear for a solid three weeks there was at least one “delayed bc of unauthorized person on tracks” message a day 😭
