📚⚖️ SHOULD HOMESCHOOLING BE REGULATED? Not banned. Not treated like public school. But regulated enough to make sure every child is actually receiving an education — and is safe. That is the question. Public-school teachers generally have to meet state education and licensing requirements, pass background checks, complete training, follow academic standards, document progress, and work inside systems with layers of oversight. Homeschooling can look very different. Depending on the state, parents may face anything from meaningful reporting and assessment requirements to very little ongoing oversight at all. And that raises a hard question: Does parental authority alone provide enough assurance that a child’s educational, developmental, and safety needs are being met? There are excellent homeschool families. There are children who thrive outside traditional classrooms. There are parents who build thoughtful, rigorous, individualized educations that work beautifully for their kids. That should be acknowledged. But policy cannot be written only around the families doing everything right. It also has to protect the child whose education is being neglected. The child who is isolated. The child whose learning disabilities are never identified. The child who disappears from every system that might otherwise notice something is wrong. So maybe the real debate is not: “Should parents be allowed to homeschool?” Of course they should have that option. The better question is: What is the minimum level of accountability every child deserves? A reasonable middle ground could include: Basic notification to the state. Clear minimum academic expectations. Periodic progress checks. Access to special-education evaluation. Some form of safety safeguard. And intervention only when there is evidence that a child is not being educated or protected. That still leaves families enormous freedom over curriculum, schedule, teaching style, religion, philosophy, and pace. Freedom and accountability do not have to be opposites. The child has rights too. A right to learn. A right to develop. A right to be safe. And a right to enter adulthood with a real chance to succeed. So where should the line be? Too little oversight risks children falling through the cracks. Too much oversight can destroy the flexibility that makes homeschooling valuable. The challenge is finding the balance. Are we protecting family freedom — or are we sometimes confusing freedom from oversight with freedom from responsibility? #Homeschooling #EducationPolicy #ChildWelfare #ParentalRights #EducationReform

⚽🕯️ WICHITA SOCCER FIELD TRAGEDY — 16 DAYS LATER, THE INVESTIGATION IS STILL OPEN It has now been 16 days since the October 17 crash at Stryker Sports Complex in Wichita, Kansas, that killed 6-year-old Cole Adrian and 35-year-old Nicholas “Nick” Schafer and injured 10 others. As of November 2, 2026, no new criminal charges or arrest have been announced. And several of the most important questions remain unanswered. The Wichita Police Department says investigators have conducted nearly 50 interviews and continue reviewing evidence from the Chevrolet pickup involved in the crash. (Wichita) ⚖️ WHAT THE DA HAS SAID The Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office completed its initial review of the case in October. But prosecutors said they will not make a charging decision until they have reviewed all relevant investigative material — including toxicology results and the vehicle examination. They also said there is no artificial deadline for that decision. (https://www.kwch.com) 🚗 WHY THE DRIVER WAS RELEASED The 34-year-old driver was initially taken into custody after the crash. Police later released her after interviews and consultation with the DA’s office because, at that point, they said they did not have probable cause to keep her detained. That release did not close the investigation and does not prevent charges from being filed later if the evidence supports them. (https://www.kwch.com) 🔬 WHAT WE ARE STILL WAITING FOR No public release has yet established: • Final toxicology findings • A confirmed mechanical failure • The final vehicle-data analysis • A definitive cause of the crash • Whether prosecutors will file criminal charges Police continue to describe the matter as an active investigation. (Wichita) 🕯️ REMEMBERING COLE AND NICK While the investigation continues, two families are living with a loss that cannot be undone. Cole Adrian, 6 Nicholas “Nick” Schafer, 35 Two lives lost during what should have been an ordinary youth soccer game. The community deserves answers — but those answers have to come from evidence, not speculation. NO CHARGES ANNOUNCED • CAUSE NOT YET ESTABLISHED • INVESTIGATION ONGOING #WichitaKansas #StrykerSportsComplex #ColeAdrian #NicholasSchafer #TrueCrime
