@afeefnessouli: HAPPY PRIDE: 3 Transwomen in Gaza 🏳️‍⚧️ I want you to know about 3 Transwomen in Gaza who I’ve known for nearly a year, and who I got to hang out with a few times over the course of my 9 weeks there. “Amal”, “Noor” and “Reem” (changed names) all elected to get to know me when their Palestinian therapist told them about me. I have been mostly just documenting their lives and how they find safety and food during Israel’s genocide in Gaza. In the middle of a May day near the port in Gaza City, I gave them the mic, asked them if I could make a video about them, and pressed record. I told them they should just talk about whatever they wanted to talk about. Although we usually discuss how they are all dealing with malnourishment due to Israel’s forced starvation in Gaza, injuries due to dangerous aide sites and local bullies and, of course, trauma from Israel’s constant bombardment and surveillance; this time, they wanted to just talk to all of us about themselves and their lives. Mainly, they focused on their dreams to simply live in safety, pursue their goals and experience liberation. All people are complex, and we come to our spirituality and our personal creation in various ways. The one thing I take away from all of my time in Gaza is that my sources and friends there are spiritually wise and can teach us so much about psychologically fighting oppression. I think about them and talk to them every day. I pray the world can get to know them one day as they are an important part of our human existence. They are not only angelic, they are in many ways the living echoes of our elders.
