‼️Trigger warning - Pet loss Mika, May 2021 - August 2026 On the night of the 6th of August I accidentally locked Mika out in the garden. I thought I had seen him inside and then I locked up and I’ll never forgive myself for not double, triple checking that he was inside. The days after we spent every moment calling him, looking for him, doing everything that’s recommended to find a lost cat. Something in me just thought he’d come back, it’s normal, indoor cats get scared and they hide and then find their way back. On the 10th of August, we found Mika deceased in the front garden of the house opposite us. My heart shattered when I was told a neighbour found a ginger cat, I just never ever considered that Mika could be gone. I’ll never forget running to that house and seeing him there. He was opposite us this entire time. I got Mika during the Covid lockdown in 2021 when I felt really lonely after I moved to my first apartment when I got married. And since then Mika has been with me through everything. He was my first baby, I raised him and we built such a wonderful strong bond. He was just so purely innocent, he had no concept of danger. He was funny, loving, derpy, so sweet, loved playing in the garden, curious, sassy, well behaved, patient, knew how to get what he wanted - he was just everything. I never understood pet grief before I got Mika, they’re not ‘just an animal’ they’re apart of the family, you grow a bond with them, you raise them, you learn to communicate with each other, you grow love. I feel so empty, heartbroken, and in disbelief. I can’t believe one moment he was here and I was so excited to see Leena grow up with him, to now he’s gone but everything around me just reminds me of him. I’m only sharing this as I know so many of you loved watching Mika and he deserves to be remembered 🤍 Thank you to everyone who prayed for Mika because he was found and he did come home - just not in the way we wanted. The silver lining is that I have closure, I’m not I’m not going to spend my whole life wondering where he is and what could have happened to him. I pray we’ll be reunited 🤍
