When my daughter was 5, I found her sitting in front of our TV crying listening to puff the magic dragon. I asked what's wrong she said, puff has no friends. She's 47 now and I'm sure doesn't remember it, but i do.

the theme of "loss of childhood innocense" was pretty on the nose imo. whenever someone says it's actually about drugs, I ask how and never get an explanation. like there's no double entendre, no allegory, no implications. someone heard "puff" and made a joke and now people parrot it without any thought

Did you know that in the storybook version of the song published in 2012, the illustrations show grown up Jackie Paper bringing his daughter to meet Puff? I love that bit of closure it gives my students who cry for Puff's loneliness. I'm excited to hear that the extra verses may actually exist!

Many people on the north shore of the Hawaiian island Kauai believe that Puff the magic dragon was written there, from the eastern side of the bay of Hanalee (where an old Club Med used to be popular with celebs of the 60s). From that site, you can clearly see Puff in the mountain range across the bay, mists, green scales, rain. And Hanalee is the town name.

I wanted to thank you very much for posting this. I had heard something about that song being about drugs and it really destroyed the song for me so thank you for telling me that it was not true. I would not want that song to be about drugs. I remember singing as a child and I love the song of the magic Dragon so thank you for telling me it's not about drugs. I am happyto know that they didn't ruin it by making it be about drugs.

I grew up with that song, but I cannot keep my eyes off your coffee cup. Will you put your thumb that’s pretty ingenious I bet it is European plus it holds a lot. That’s hard to find anymore but thank you for your content.
