@lifepatterns: Double Helix DIY Make a double helix with colored wooden sticks. DNA has this structure. Discovered in part by a scientist playing with paper models (Watson), along with Crick, and the uncredited Rosalind Franklin. The double helix is two helicoids, mirror images (opposite "handedness"), intertwined but never intersecting. They are "ruled surfaces" (made of straight sticks). The sticks are at right angles but spiral all around an axis. It's the same structure as a double staircase. The Château de Chambord has a double-helix staircase allowing people to ascend and descend at the same time without encountering each other.
