Thank you so much for your insight and advice on delusions. My 31 year old son has schizophrenia and has hallucinations and delusions. I have a lot of experience in mental health but not so much with the delusions. I can never get a straight answer from his psychiatrist on how to respond to the delusions so I mainly just try to listen and offer emotional support to him in those times. I didn’t think it would be a good idea to try to contradict him because that is his reality. Am I doing the right thing?

My late boyfriend had schizophrenia and he ended up taking his own life… I am still SO heartbroken & angry with his family. They were the type to “not believe in mental illness” so they ignored his cries for help…then they supplied him with a g*n…after he took his life, they acted like nothing happened. No posts, no funeral, no obituary….I don’t even know where he’s laid to rest, IF he is. It’s like they erased him…and i will never EVER forgive them for taking him from me. It was preventable and he should be here. RIP my Marqie😕💔

I would walk through fire for my loved one and I do everything I can to support them. It is really a balancing act when addressing their delusions. I try to be supportive while also not encouraging the delusional/ paranoid thoughts.

I just find really hard to have empathy for someone who has consistently hurt so so so much someone I love (and myself sometimes). Someone who has never apologized for the abuse. If they were willing to take their meds, do therapy, to repair or to acknowledge the harm, it'd be different...
