@hannahhhb96: Part 2 of DIYing an ✨aesthetic✨ cover for my WiFi router! Final reveal coming next! #DIY #diyproject #wifiroutercover *I’m obvs not a professional and don’t know how safe this is, so please proceed at your own risk! I also ended up raising the books so the router and outlet have enough clearance. They are definitely too short in this part!
Destroying books, making a firehazard with the books, limitting wifi signal by covering it

🚨I’M NOT USING THIS ON MY WIFI ROUTER ANYMORE! Thank you for all the concern (although some have a very weird & rude way of showing it 😳). I’ve been cognizant of the safety and WiFi signal concerns from the start and I think enough people have made it clear, but if you think this will cause a fire or damage your signal, use it for something else. And if you think it’s ugly or have an issue with cutting books, don’t do it 😁 You do you, boo.

Creativity good, covering up electronics with flammable stuff not so good. Maybe put some layers of tinfoil on the inside

Did you know that routers need proper ventilation to prevent overheating?

Engineer here. So this probably isn’t a big fire hazard, your biggest concern would just be the router burning itself out. The internal materials will likely get way too hot and the router will no longer work. Don’t do this, it’s not smart

And now you’re just blocking the signal and causing it to over heat lol

People calling this a fire hazard are overreacting quite a lot. However restricting airflow will lead to worse performance and shorter lifespan but is quite fixable. Cut the pages from the top of the books and replace them with a white plastic mesh that maintains airflow. Won't look as nice as the book tops but it's a good middle ground
