According to authentic hadith, the Dajjal (the Antichrist in Islamic belief) is described as having a defective eye.
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:
“Allah is not one-eyed. Beware! The Dajjal is one-eyed; his right eye is like a floating grape.”
— Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim
Another authentic narration describes his left eye as being covered with a thick membrane or flesh.
Scholars explain that these narrations are not contradictory. Rather:
* Both of Dajjal’s eyes are defective.
* His right eye is described as protruding or resembling a floating grape, indicating severe impairment or blindness.
* His left eye is also defective, being covered by a thick membrane or flesh.
The Prophet ﷺ emphasized this description to distinguish Dajjal from Allah, saying:
“Allah is not one-eyed.”
Another important sign mentioned in authentic hadith is that the Arabic letters “ك ف ر” (K-F-R, meaning “disbeliever”) will be written between Dajjal’s eyes. Every true believer will be able to recognize this sign, whether they are literate or illiterate.
These descriptions are among the signs that Muslims are taught to recognize so they will not be deceived by Dajjal’s claims.
