Some black Americans can trace an ancestor from Africa, look into Africatown Alabama and cudjoe Lewis. The Quander family is also a good read. It is the oldest black lineage which traces to a person from Ghana

Dayanu1976 :
The term "African American" was first documented in a 1782 sermon titled "A Sermon on the Capture of Lord Cornwallis," where the author referred to himself as "an African American". While the term was recorded as early as the late 18th century, it gained significant prominence and widespread popular usage in the late 1980s and early 1990s, largely due to the efforts of civil rights activist and minister Reverend Jesse Jackson

Quick question so why I don’t hear the majority of African-Americans calling himself foundation of blacks like I didn’t know what foundation of black was till I jumped on TikTok I go out there in a real word and I ask people with foundation black is and they don’t even know Never heard of this term till I got on TikTok now I’m not saying you’re wrong. I’m just saying it’s just now became a thing in 2025 on TikTok to educate me more I’m all ears.

“Coincidentally” the “Out of Africa” THEORY was magically “genetically substantiated” by Chris Stringer 1984. It was yet ANOTHER push to RECLASSIFY so called “black” indigenous to remove identity and strip them of land rights gravitating towards “reparations” which would legally close the book on RESTITUTION + reclaiming stolen land.

Exactly! Aren’t even taught about American colonialism or slavery in their countries. So tired of the gaslighting when they have no idea about our lineage or ancestors 🙄

A quick Google search will tell you when it was first documented at the very least. Jesse Jackson popularized it, but he did not coincide with the term and it certainly wasn’t coined in the 1980’s.
