@erased.her.story: Olympe de Gouges (1748–1793) was one of France’s first feminist thinkers, and history tried to erase her. Born in the south of France, she became a writer in Paris, using her pen to fight for equality, abolition, and women’s rights. In 1791 she wrote The Declaration of the Rights of Woman, demanding property rights, divorce, equal wealth, and freedom of choice at a time when women were denied a voice. Revolutionary leaders silenced her, branding her “dangerous” for challenging their power.
