I'm the villain currently in my sister's BPD mind. Everybody else in her life was at some point the villain. she cut contact with friends and family including me. It's very hurtful and exhausting.

Interesting. As an adult, I find that I no longer oscillate between idolizing and devaluing— now once the devaluation has occurred, I find that I must end the relationship. I have never returned to a relationship/friendship I’ve left in this manner.

yeah it’s the misinterpretation of intentionality of someone’s actions and personalizing them. it happens because the pain from the actions is so raw and intensified that it immediately becomes a narrative of survival against personal attack.
