I have thought a lot about the recent events with the senseless murder of Iryna in Charlotte, NC and the assassination of Charlie Kirk in Utah. In the background, we remember the victims of the terrorist attacks of 9/11. My wife cried in my arms last night wondering how we raise three daughters in this type of world. I told her that all these events remind us that evil exists in this world and is rampantly trying to destroy us. Let me be clear, evil is not new. While I admit, we seem to be seeing a shift and an escalation, it’s not a new fight. School shootings, violence, a total disregard for humanity and justice. These things are not only accepted, they are celebrated. How do you remove this evil? We spent 20+ years after 9/11 trying to stomp out even the remnants of evil in Afghanistan and the Middle East. It still remains. However, I do believe you have to look it in the face daily. You can’t let the fear associated with evil consume you or paralyze you. That is what evil wants. It wants to choke the life and happiness out of you. That’s the lesson we learned from terrorism. Control the masses by fear. The evil we witnessed on a train in Charlotte and on the campus in Utah- those are the attacks. This is the war. Evil wants to control us. To manipulate us. Don’t give it the satisfaction. Our mission is too important. These events are heartbreaking. A young girl who fled an invasion for hope of something better- gone. A father and huaband who went around promoting open discussions and dialogue while sharing his faith- murdered in front of his family and thousands. Even overseas we pause for those who we have lost. But, we can’t stop. We put our kit back on and keep after it. We have to move forward. So, wipe away the tears, and drive on. That’s your mission. And remember, this world is NOT our home. #charliekirk #irynazarutska
