@mytherapybinder: This is one of my new favorite mindfulness activities for group counseling! Clients start by choosing a rock, closing their eyes, and taking about 30 seconds to notice every detail — the weight, edges, texture, and feel of the rock. Then, the rock is placed on paper and gently pushed around with a pen, letting the rock guide the lines instead of trying to control it. The lines create an organic design full of unique shapes, which can then be filled in mindfully with colors, patterns, or shading. It’s a simple, calming way to practice mindfulness, reduce stress, and stay present in the moment. This works great as a creative counseling activity, an art-based mindfulness exercise, or even just as a fun way to slow down and let go of control. Perfect activity for group therapy, classroom mindfulness, or stress management sessions. 💜 Huge shoutout to @Demi Dawkins | ADHD Meets Art for inspiring this activity! #mindfulnesspractice #counselorsoftiktok #grouptherapy #schoolcounselor #therapyactivities

As a registered art therapist, I use the fish tank glass marbles from the dollar store & have them identify different colors to emotions they’re feeling to show that you can feel multiple emotions at once. More of one color = feeling that emotion the most

I used to do this a lot when I was younger. I would scribble and color in the spaces.

Really good for exposure to distress for my perfectionists too 😅 they hate that they can’t get a perfect product or guide the rock where they want it. Tried this for mindfulness and unintentionally got a distress tolerance activity 🤣

thank you for sharing this idea. I'm going to combine it with my daily rune pull, substituting in the rune for the rock. 💜

Mindfulness literally changed my life and how I view the world. I even put together a DBT-based exercise that’s been super grounding for me—sharing in case it helps someone else too 🩷
