It is one of the most useful physical tests for identifying ACL injury. 🔎To perform the test, the patient lies on their back with the knee flexed approximately 20–30°. The examiner stabilizes the femur with one hand while translating the tibia forward with the other. Excessive anterior translation compared to the opposite knee, particularly when accompanied by a soft or absent endpoint, suggests ACL insufficiency. 🧠A positive Lachman test can indicate an ACL injury, which may contribute to knee instability, particularly during cutting, pivoting, jumping, or rapid changes in direction. The Lachman test should be interpreted alongside the patient’s history and other clinical findings, and imaging may be used when appropriate to further evaluate the injury. ✅If you have experienced a knee ligament injury, rehabilitation typically focuses on progressively restoring mobility, strength, and neuromuscular control.
