The comments that get me aren’t from educators who started yesterday. They’re from educators who have been doing this for 15, 20, even 25+ years. Educators who have made it through curriculum changes, new administrations, testing mandates, difficult classes, changing expectations… all of it. And lately, I keep hearing some version of: “I don’t know how much longer I can do this.” That hits differently when it comes from people who once thought they’d teach until retirement. I’m feeling it too. I’m not walking away tomorrow. I have bills, responsibilities, and a life that requires an income. But I’ve also stopped believing my only choices are stay miserable or quit without a plan. So while I’m still in education, I’m learning how to use the skills I already have to build another source of income and create another option for myself. Maybe I stay. Maybe someday I leave. But I want that decision to be mine—not one I make because I finally hit my breaking point. 🍎 If you’re an educator somewhere in that messy middle too, follow along.
