Before adding another tablet, the cause needs checking. With leg swelling plus new breathlessness or chest pain, call 999. For unexplained one-leg swelling, or a red, hot or painful area, seek an urgent GP appointment or NHS 111. Do water tablets help amlodipine ankle swelling? Usually they have little effect on this particular side effect. Diuretics, often called water tablets, remove extra salt and water through your kidneys. Amlodipine-related swelling involves fluid pooling around small blood vessels, rather than the same problem as general fluid overload. That matters because adding a diuretic may leave the original problem unresolved. It doesn't mean a water tablet already prescribed for another condition is wrong. Ask what each medicine is treating, and don't stop any prescribed medicine yourself. Can amlodipine swelling start after months? Yes.
