I have this question REGULARLY- can cops run a plate for no APPARENT reason? Like say the driver didn’t run a stop sign or the stickers weren’t out of date, there’s no outward “reason” to run the plate- but they do and find it to be a suspended lisence or maybe the plate doesn’t belong to that vehicle… things that wouldn’t be known if the plate wasn’t run- is that legal for them to do? Or do they need a REASON to run the plate in the first place? Just curious….Ive always wondered this.
