@accuweather: A copperhead snake blends right in with leaves in Louisiana. Copperheads are common in the eastern and southern US and they’d rather hide than bother humans. So if you see one, give it space and admire its camouflage from a distance.
It took me WAY too long to find where its head was located!

That’s why I don’t hike in the woods in Texas or go through tall grass or swim in lakes because there are too many poisonous snakes. I rarely ran into rattle snakes in Michigan

I consider myself pretty aware of threats in the outdoors but, snakes and mountain lions always humble any awareness.

If you’re hiking and smell cucumbers, stop and look around before taking another step. There’s a whole mess of coppers very close to you.

Had to take some action a few years ago to save a young man who discovered a huge corn snake crossing the road, so he ran back to his house to get a net to catch it. I found a VERY long branch to gently guide the huge COPPERHEAD into the tall grass! MANY people don't think Copperhead are in this part of Indiana, but I've even seen babies crossing the alley behind our house! Makes me a VERY aware gardener!!!
