Humanoid robot kickboxing is getting surprisingly physical. This clip shows a humanoid robot training against a human opponent, throwing repeated kicks while trying to stay balanced through fast changes in direction and body contact. The interesting part is the recovery. A kick forces the robot to shift its center of mass quickly, stabilize on one leg, place the foot accurately, then recover its posture before the next movement. That requires coordination across the hips, knees, ankles and upper body in real time. You can also see the human moving unpredictably around it.
