Are you chasing numbers… or solving the actual problem? When a measure becomes the goal, it stops being a good measure. A lot of things matter when it comes to throwing harder, staying healthy, and pitching well, but the moment you turn them into the outcome, you can become detached from the actual problem at hand. I don’t think guys get stuck due to a lack of effort, but they begin attaching themselves to the wrong source of progress. And then once that attachment happens, it can be difficult to break. Guys want to feel like they’re always making clean, direct progress, and throwing doesn’t always look like that. It can be much simpler to just add weight to the bar, but that might not actually move you anywhere forwards. Throwing isn’t just a “more input = more output” equation. You need to find the limiting factors, ensure a plan to address them, measure along the way, re-asses, and reiterate.
