“Remove the beam from your own eye.” Absolutely. But keep reading. Jesus didn’t say, “Remove the beam from your eye, then stay silent about everything happening around you.” He said to remove it FIRST—and then you will “see clearly” to help remove the mote from your brother’s eye. That’s a very different message. Christ calls us to self-examination before correction. To humility before accountability. To repentance before judgment. But He does not call us to blindness. You can acknowledge your own mistakes AND recognize harmful patterns in someone else. You can have compassion for someone’s weaknesses AND establish boundaries around their behavior. You can forgive someone AND decide that something needs to change. You can love someone AND tell the truth. In dysfunctional family systems, scriptures like “judge not,” “honor thy father and mother,” “turn the other cheek,” and “remove the beam from your own eye” can sometimes become reasons people are expected to stay quiet. But Jesus never modeled passive silence in the face of everything that was wrong. He modeled truth AND grace. So yes—remove the beam. Look inward. Repent. Own your part. Ask God to change your heart. And then see clearly. Because recognizing dysfunction isn’t always an act of judgment. Sometimes it’s the first step toward ending it. 👇 Have you ever had a scripture used to make you feel guilty for setting a boundary or speaking up? I’d love to hear your experience. #ChristlikeBoundaries #FamilyBoundaries #CycleBreaker #ChristianRelationships #FaithAndHealing
