The “pea-shooter” earned its nickname from spectators at board-track and dirt-track races in the late 1920s, as it sounded like someone was firing peas from a pea-shooter tube. The fast, pop-pop-pop noise was a contrast to the deep rumble of the twins that Harleys were known for.
