Four biblical truths about forgiveness every Christian should know. If you think forgiving someone means you must continue a relationship with them, please listen carefully until the end. Many Christians suffer for years because they misunderstand this. The Lord Jesus truly commanded us to forgive, but He never told us to keep people who hurt us close to our lives. A spiritually mature person has both love and discernment. Fourth, forgiveness does not mean pretending nothing happened. Matthew 18:15 says: “Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault...” — Matthew 18:15 KJV The Gospel does not shape people who have no principles and allow others to control or hurt them. It shapes people who know how to forgive, but do not tolerate sin. They pursue peace without sacrificing truth. They show mercy, but still walk with wisdom and discernment.
