Former OR TECH here: I got splashed in the eye with blood after a vascular surgeon flung an instrument at my circulating nurse. The patient was Hepatitis C and HIV positive. To this day, I will never forget the horror. I had to go on Combivir and Viracept for six weeks to prevent seroconversion. Thank God, I was OK.
