@the_green_bird_brigade: Piper is a 5 yo Indian ringneck who was surrendered due to aggression issues in her previous home. It is, unfortunately, a common sequence of events that often leads to this. When we bring a baby bird home, it is natural to want to spend all of our time cuddling and bonding with them. But this frequently leads to over bonding which, as a bird matures, can become problematic. The bird begins to see us as the most rewarding thing in their environment. This can increase screaming, hormones, and aggression. As flock animals, birds do need lots of enriching time with the “flock” (us) but maintaining a healthy level of independence is also important to their mental health and to minimizing behavioral issues long term. #piper #indianringneck #rescue #bird
