I see people talk about Italian Americans not speaking Italian all the time. But they’re a perfect example of how fragile a language can be in diaspora, what can block migrants from maintaining languages, as well as how little is known more widely about Italian language diversity and the many languages that have travelled *with* diaspora, many of which weren’t ever taught at school or even written down. As a Britalian I relate a lot ♥️ and there’s a lot more to it than is in this video but for more you’ll have to read chapter 1 of my book!
